JAKARTA - Until the third day of the National Student Sports Week (POPNAS) XV / 2019, Monday 18 November 2019, the West Java Team Contingent (West Java) managed to secure the top of the standings with 27 medals.
The details, the 'West Java Champion' squad managed to get eight gold, 11 silver and eight bronze until Monday (11/18) night WIB.
Since the match schedule in the most prestigious event for students all over Indonesia began on Saturday (11/16), gold sports (karate) karate has opened the medal tap for West Java.
The first medal was donated Yudha Fadillah Pratama from the men's personal word number on Monday (11/18) after defeating Central Java rivals at the Cempaka Putih Youth Center, Jakarta.
Besides Yudha, seven other gold donations were donated by Ridwan Pawas (karate), Yudha / Gilang Waluyo / Syahrun Nizar (karate), Arya Rizki Mahesa (taekwondo), Noverentiwi Ramadhanifa (taekwondo), Dede Heti (athletics), Natasya Mahdalita (athletics), and Andyka Agyas (fighting degree).
While for other medals added from sports taekwondo which contributed two silver and one bronze, fighting degrees (five silver, two bronze), karate (one silver, two bronze), athletics (one silver, one bronze), and weightlifting (two silver , two bronze).
Head of Youth and Sports Agency Engkus Sutisna said, the target of the West Java Team Contingent was to retain the overall championship title at the biennial event.
"Our previous edition (POPNAS) was the overall champion in Semarang in 2015. It must be maintained in accordance with the vision of West Java Champion," said Engkus.
"After this (eight gold, 11 silver and eight bronze) we still have other gold potential from swimming, pencak silat, and badminton," he added.
Meanwhile, East Java traversed West Java in the position of two standings POPNAS XV / 2019 with seven gold, five silver and nine bronze. In third place, there is the host of DKI Jakarta with seven gold, four silver and seven bronze.
The 15th POPNAS that played 13 sports began on Saturday (11/16) and was officially opened by the Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali through the opening ceremony at the Soemantri Brojonegoro Student Center Jakarta, Sunday (11/17).
The tournament which was attended by 2,631 students from 34 provinces across the country competed for 221 gold, 221 silver and 314 bronze until the last match took place on Sunday (24/11).
