    West Java International Literacy Day is celebrated in Garut

    GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regency hosted the 54th International Literacy Day Commemoration on West Java, Thursday (11/14/2019). Located in the courtyard of the Garut Regency pavilion, the anniversary was enlivened by an exhibition of community education programs in the City of West Java PKBM. West Java Deputy Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum in his remarks advised that the world of education pay attention to the balance between worldly education and ukhrowi.

    "We are often proud if our students are interested in mathematics, physics, and so on, but we are often neglectful of the scientific needs of our children's ukhrowi," he said.

    To improve public literacy, the West Java Provincial Government has launched several literacy improvement programs that have been implemented since the beginning of 2019.

    "There is a collecer program that is intelligent literacy box, then candlestick maca digital literacy and others. That is merely to enhance the literacy culture of our generation" said Uu.

    Meanwhile the Director General of PAUD and Community Education Ministry of Culture and Education DR. Haris Iskandar, who was also present at the event, said that Indonesia still had to struggle to reduce the percentage of illiteracy.

    "In West Java alone, a total of under one percent or 0.19 percent of the population is still illiterate who must continue to be trained to read to be literate," stressed.

    According to him it was a homework of all parties not just the government. Therefore, Haris appreciated the number of PKBM living in the community on their own or group initiative.

    In the event of the celebration of international literacy day at the West Java level in Garut, prizes were also given to various competitions such as the PKBM, Paud and others. (Even)
