BANDUNG CITY- Deputy Governor of West Java (West Java) Uu Ruzhanul Ulum said, the Regional Government (Pemda) of West Java Province is trying to revive the art of Kasidah - Arabic literature which is usually in vogue - because its existence is considered to be declining.
According to Uu, kasidah art has now been displaced by modern art such as electone or dangdut. Moreover, Uu said West Java is a religious province so it is fitting to develop Islamic cultural arts such as the Kasidah.
"In the past, in every village there was a celebration there would be a Qasidah or at the Tabligh Akbar event, it would always start with a Qidah. But today, the Qididah has been displaced by electone dangdut and other arts," Uu said after opening the Qasidah Arts Festival in the Province of West Java in 2019 in campus of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Bandung City, Monday (11/11/19).
To revive the art of kasidah, Uu said that his party had discussed with the Office of Tourism and Culture (Disparbud) regarding the preparation of action plans such as holding a festival of Qasidah every month in various districts / cities in West Java.
"We have talked with the Head of Disparbud, Mr. Dedi Taufik, how we can awaken the art of the Kasidah in West Java and have to be popular again," Uu said.
Through the Jabar Province Qasidah Arts Festival in 2019 on the campus of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati, Uu also hopes that the Qasidah in the province with the largest population in Indonesia will grow and a new group of Kasidah will be liked by the public.
"In the past, the famous Kasidah group namely Nasida Ria from Semarang, (from) Tasikmalaya also existed, namely Almanar and many more. Why didn't the Kasidah group now participating in the festival have been born with a reliable, popular, and well-liked group of Kasidah?" he said.
According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Qasidah Arts Institute (LASQI) of West Java Eni Sumarni as the organizer of the Qasidah Arts Festival in the West Java Province in 2019, the festival was not only a place of friendship between fans of the Qasidah but also an evaluation material to measure the extent of the ability of the Kasidah groups in West Java.
"This also has an element of entertainment," Eni said.
The 2019 West Java Province Qasidah Arts Festival was attended by participants from 27 regencies / cities throughout West Java who exchanged songs from 11 to 13 November 2019 at the UIN Sunan Gunung Djati campus in Bandung.
Eni added, the winners of the most prestigious Kasidah festival in West Java will be contested again to attend the national-level Kasidah festival in Ambon City, Maluku Province, still in the same year.
"This festival is also a place for selection to take part at the national level," Eni concluded.
