ABU DHABI (7/10/2019) After holding a Cold Chain System workshop for member countries of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) on October 1-2 October 2019, the Indonesian Ministry of Health and Bio Farma were invited to the 13th Meeting of the OIC Steering Committee on Health organized by OIC in Abu Dhabi UAE, on 7 October 2019 ago.
The meeting, which was held in preparation for the 7th meeting of the Minister of Health of the 7th Member of the OIC (Islamic Conference of Health Ministers) in December 2019 in Abu Dhabi, discussed several agendas, including the submission of a report from Indonesia on the activities of the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Biotechnology and Vaccines including OIC workshops on Cold Chain Management System, and plans to develop centers of superior vaccine and biotechnology products for the next 10 years.
Director General of Non-Communicable Diseases Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and chair of the session Dr. Yahya Saeede representing the participants gave a positive reception and hoped that the center of excellence would continue to be encouraged to be able to realize the Resistance and Independence of Vaccines and Biotechnology Products in the 57 member countries of the OIC.
In the report on Indonesia's activities as a Center of Excellence (CoE) delivered by the Bio Farma Corporate Secretary, Bambang Heriyanto said there have been several activities related to CoE activities, including the official launch of the CoE by the Minister of Health through a Seminar on Vaccine Center Centers in the month Last May 2018 in Jakarta, Bio Farma was appointed as a laboratory and OIC research facility. This lab facility is expected to be expanded in the Serpong Science and Technology Development Center (PUSPITEK) in the future.
Other activities at this CoE are the implementation of a Workshop on Cold Chain Management System on 1-2 October 2019, in Bandung, and the creation of a Secretariat for the Center for Vaccine Leading and Biotechnology Products located in the 8th Floor of the Adhyatma Building Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and the Leading Center Facility itself in the form of a laboratory located at Bio Farma.
"After the appointment of Indonesia as a Center of Excellence in the field of Biotechnology and vaccines, the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Health has made several agendas, especially for increasing the capacity building of OKI members. For the short term, the Ministry of Health has invited 16 OIC member delegations in early October 2019, to learn about vaccine handling, through cold chain system workshops, a method for handling vaccines, from the factory to patients, "said Bambang
Bambang added, this training will continue to develop along with the increasing competency of each OIC member, so that the ultimate goal of the formation of this CoE can be realized, among others, the emergence of independence for the manufacture of vaccines to protect the public from the threat of global disease and develop the potential for collaborative research between fellow countries OIC member.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Indonesian delegation led by the Health Legal Expert Staff and consisting of the Director of Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution and the Head of the Ministry of Health's Foreign Cooperation Bureau, the OINB Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate of Social and Political Affairs, and the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh had the opportunity to conduct Bilateral meetings with business people and the pharmaceutical industry of the United Arab Emirates, namely LifePharma, Burjeel Hospital and KBBO Group in the context of exploring health cooperation in the pharmaceutical and health fields.
