BANGKOK, Thailand (October 16, 2019) - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil for the umpteenth time received a prestigious award at the international level for his leadership and innovation. This time Kang Emil was awarded the award at the 2019 GovInsider Innovation Awards, Wednesday (16/10) at the Asia Pacific United Nations Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. Ridwan Kamil's nickname Kang Emil was chosen as Inspirational Leader in the Asia-Pacific region. This award was given directly to the Governor of West Java by Ratu Sikhanyiso, Principal Princess of the Kingdom of Eswatini, and Jonathan Wong, Chief of Technology and Innovation, UN ESCAP, which is the body of the United Nations Organization for Economic and Social Affairs in the Asia Pacific.
This award was given because Governor Kang Emil was seen as a pioneer in changes in the public sector after going through an international panel of judges who selected the winning nominees.
In his remarks when receiving the award, the Governor of West Java expressed his gratitude to all elements in the ranks of the Government of West Java Province who have supported the implementation of e-government and public services based on innovation and collaboration. Kang Emil is proud of this success and achievement. In the future West Java will develop various service programs that focus on urban and rural communities through synergies with the City and Regency Governments in West Java.
In the 2019 GovInsider Innovation Award, West Java through Diskominfo also won two of the nine award categories, namely Best Adaptation for Digital Village Programs and Best Team Under 35 for Jabar Digital Service units.
According to the Head of West Java Communication and Information Agency, Setiaji, awards were given to projects that were already running and through an adaptive ICT approach. The West Java Provincial Government is deemed to have found ways to better serve the public and improve public services such as the Digital Village, Sapawarga, Open Data, West Java Digital Service, Jabar Sapu Bersih Hoaks, and others.
In addition, Setiaji continued, the Best Team Under 35 Award itself is an award given to a team that has a majority of young employees who use their skills and experience for government services. As is known, the Jabar Digital Service team is mostly filled by young employees with various fields, including Software Developers and Engineers, Analysts, UX / UI Researchers and Designers, Project Management, Data Engineers, Communications, and so on. The West Java team succeeded in showing that providing space for young people to contribute through the government can accelerate significant impacts especially in the era of the digital revolution 4.0.
The Best Adaptation Award for Digital Villages is given for the success of this program in collaboration with various parties in providing quality improvement for rural communities through the provision of digital infrastructure and innovation, including BAKTI Kominfo, E-fishery, Habibi Garden, Docta and Edubox.
The 2019 GovInsider Summit is the fourth event. GovInsider itself is a publication portal from the team that is covering all of Asia Pacific to look for and find examples of governments that have done something different to present innovative solutions, and dare to take new approaches to the challenges faced by government employees.
This activity was attended by more than a thousand senior government officials from more than 50 countries, including Indonesia, Germany, Britain, South Korea, South Africa, Afghanistan, France, Poland, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, United Nations, etc. The award was also filled by 52 speakers including the Governor and Head of West Java Communication and Information Office, Government Digital Service, UAE Prime Minister’s Office, UNESCAP, AWS, and others.
