JAKARTA - 13 arts from West Java (West Java) are officially designated as intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) through the delivery of certificates at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Tuesday (8/10/19) .

Certificate of Appreciation for the Determination of Indonesia's Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019 which was handed over by the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Tjahjo Kumolo to Acting Regional Secretary (Secretary) of West Java Province Daud Achmad who was present representing the West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil.

Daud said, the West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov) greatly appreciated the determination. Daud also appealed to regional leaders in regencies / cities throughout West Java to continue to revive the original culture of the region so that it would not be eroded by time and taken over by outsiders.

"I appeal to the regency / city (to) be able to continue to maintain, to continue to preserve the cultures that indeed live in their area. Actually, we also compete with our neighboring countries, such as in Sumatra (its culture) that many other regions claim, "Daud said.

In addition, Daud said that the West Java Provincial Government did not only seek official recognition of cultures in 27 districts / cities.

Currently, it through the Department of Tourism and Culture of West Java Province is fighting for recognition by UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) for Pencak Silat culture.

"(Through) the Department of Tourism and Culture that we are trying to get recognition from UNESCO is martial arts. Indeed the assessment is long, the process has been several years, "added Daud.

In the event, Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo also appealed to regional heads to immediately submit their cultural heritage patents at the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

This is considered important as a form of synergy between the central government and regional governments in terms of cultural preservation.

"I ask for all the cultures that have been established, if possible, patented in the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. Not only culture, but also the culinary. Do not let in the future there is our culture that is recognized by other countries, "said Tjahjo.

Responding to these directives, Daud said the West Java Provincial Government was ready to register the culture of West Java to have a patent.

Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy meanwhile said, this annual program was a concrete step by the central government in protecting cultures from foreign claims.

Not only carrying out the mandate of the Basic Law, this cultural heritage certification event is also a form of commitment in cultural preservation.

"Determination of this intangible cultural heritage is a concrete step as a form of protection of cultural property owned so as not to be claimed by other parties," said Muhadjir.

This year, approximately 267 intangible cultural heritages are registered from all over Indonesia. West Java itself proposes 13 art and culture of the people who all passed the selection and verification so that it is officially designated as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Indonesia.

As for after being proposed by each province, a verification and field test was carried out by a team of experts and it was ended by a session to determine the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Indonesia last August.
