BANDUNG- More than 8,000 KAI employees and their families participated in the 5 km healthy walk to commemorate the 74th anniversary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), which was centered by KAI at the Pusdiklat Ir. H. Djuanda, Bandung on Sunday (29/09).
The activity which was also attended by the Minister of State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Rini M. Soemarno, began with the inauguration of the Pusdiklat Gate Ir. H. Djuanda who now displays the BB 300 Locomotive monument.
KAI President Director Edi Sukmoro said,
This BB 300 locomotive is a 1958 locomotive produced by Fried Krupp, Germany. The locomotive had previously operated serving various routes both on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
"This BB 300 locomotive was last operating in 2015, so now we make a monument at the Ir. H. Djuanda Pusdiklat as a form of preservation of historic objects owned by KAI," he said.
In the same activity, Rini M. Soemarno also had the opportunity to launch the book "Guarding the Steel Road - West Java and Banten". This book, which is a synergy of KAI and the Kereta Anak Bangsa Foundation, presents a profile of the non-active railway lines of West Java and Banten Provinces.
According to Edy, many non-active train lines in West Java and Banten have extraordinary potential and this book, KAI hopes to preserve historical railway assets, "Edi added.
"At the moment, KAI is focusing on reactivating the 19 km inactive, Cibatu-Garut railroad, aiming to improve services to the Garut community who want to use the train directly to Bandung or Jakarta.
Edy said, the progress to date, KAI has conducted a trial as far as 9 km with the Infrastructure Maintenance Train up to Wanaraja Station and it is targeted that the line can be operated notally starting early 2020.
"The target path to Garut can be operated in early 2020," added Edi, at the Family Catering event at the Pusdiklat Ir. H. Djuanda, Sunday (29/09). (Parno)
