BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil stated, the West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov) is working to increase public interest in reading. One of them is by launching Kolecer (Smart Literacy Box) and Candil (Maca Dina Digital Library).
"The reading interest of Indonesians tends to be low, so we have to make innovations to improve it," said Emil - greeting Ridwan Kamil - as a guest speaker at the Book Park 2019 event at Ciwalk Union Square, Bandung, Sunday (8/9/19).
According to Emil, he is optimistic that the interest in reading the public, especially the younger generation, can increase via Kolecer and Candil. Because, people can access and read books through devices.
"Collecers are kept on the sidewalk in public spaces, and now millennial generations prefer to spend their time using gadgets, so we also make Candil," he said.
What has been done by West Java Provincial Government produces an award. On Thursday (5/9/19), Emil received the Nugra Jasa Darma Pustaloka award for the category of Public Officials who Played an Active Role in Developing Library and Reading Fondness Culture from the Republic of Indonesia's National Library at The Ballroom Jakarta Theater.
"It marks our efforts to produce results that encourage a culture of literacy that is even better," Emil said.
"All of us are encouraged by innovations like other things, encouraging the publication of books by the wives of regional heads, driving literacy in schools, and presenting Kolecer in public spaces, Candil, and others," he added.
On the same occasion, Emil motivated the people of West Java to increase their interest in reading. Because, he said, the progress of the nation also lies in a culture of good literacy. "Don't be lazy reading, don't be afraid of writing wrong," Emil said.
Thus, Emil invited housewives as educators of children at home to launch a culture of literacy. Both introduce the culture of reading and writing. This was done so that children like to read and write.
Meanwhile, West Java Literacy Mother Atalia Praratya Kamil expressed her support for literacy activities, such as Book Park 2019. According to her, her party also intensively spreads the literacy virus to 27 regencies / cities throughout West Java via Mobile Broadcast (Sarling).
"We are trying to get people closer to books," Atalia said.
Atalia also said, introducing literacy culture to children can be by storytelling, inviting to the library, or making reading corners at home.
