The Deputy Governor of West Java: Making Mosques as the Center of Civilization

TASIKMALAYA CITY – The Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum said West Java as a province with the largest population in Indonesia has the potential to empower mosques. Moreover, West Java has infrastructures and qualified human resources.

“Besides to the symbol of Islam, the mosques in West Java must become a pilot in professional management,” he said after opening the management training at Daarut Tauhid Mosque Peduli Priangan Timur in Tasikmalaya City, Saturday (8/3/19).

Based on the data from the Ministry of Religion, there are 50,065 mosques, 38,062 Mushala, and 8,428 Islamic Boarding School in throughout West Java. Therefore, Uu hopes with that training, Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) management can maintain the Islamic values and national values of the people.

“DKM also must become an agent of development that promotes democratic, moderate, and tolerant values of cultural and religious diversity,” he said.

Besides, Uu also stated, DKM should be able to present new ideas in realizing the mission of West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov), that is making mosques as the center of civilization.

According to Uu, West Java Provincial Government has issued several programs to form pious people through improving mosque functions, such as Masjid Mengaji, English for Ulama, One Village One Hafidz, Kredit Mesra, and MTQ champions.

“Mosques are still a catalyst for development in West Java,” Uu concluded.
