    Mount Tangkuban Parahu Eruption, Community Asked to Beware of Volcanic Gas

    BANDUNG - Mount Tangkuban Parahu, West Bandung is confirmed to have erupted on Friday (7/26/2019). at 15:48 WIB.

    Data from the eruption Tangkuban Parahu Volcano Observation Post occurred with the ash column height observed ± 200 m above the peak (± 2,284 m above sea level). The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning northeast and south.

    "This eruption is recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 38 mm and a duration of ± 5 minutes 30 seconds," in an official statement of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency.

    Despite it is erupting, now Tangkuban Parahu Mountain is still in Status * Level I (Normal) *. But the PVMBG still issued recommendations for residents and visitors of Tangkuban Parahu such as:

    A. Society around Mount Tangkuban Parahu and visitors, tourists, climbers are not allowed to go down to the bottom of the Kawah Ratu and Kawah Upas and should not stay in the active craters area inside the Mount Tangkuban Parahu complex, and when the weather is cloudy and rain because of the presence of volcanic gases that can endanger human life.

    B. Society around Mount Tangkuban Parahu, traders, tourists, climbers, and tourist managers of Mount Tangkuban Parahu so, they are aware of sudden phreatic eruptions and are not preceded by clear volcanic symptoms.

    Meanwhile, many employees in Gedung Sate climbed into Gedung Sate tower to see from a distance the smoke conditions on the Tangkuban Parahu mountain.

    "The smoke is clearly visible from here but unfortunately it is rather blurry because of air pollution, perhaps," said Dicky, an employee at the Gedung Sate Public Relations Bureau. (Pun)
