    Bio Farma Initial Exports of New Products to Angola


    BANDUNG - State-owned Bio Farma has released the export of its newest product, to Angola, in the form of Monovalent Oral Polio Vaccine type 2 (mOPV2), as many as 3.4 million doses to be used to prevent the spread of type 2 wild polio virus in the region on Tuesday (16 / 7), at Bio Farma Office in Bandung.

    mOPV2 is a product that just received the WHO Prequalification (PQ) in June 2019 ago, and is the newest product of Bio Farma which in its production process requires special handling, related to the containment, biosafety and biosecurity requirements of type 2 virus.

    Also present at the initial release of exports included the Board of Directors of Bio Farma, Director of Production Juliman, and Marketing Director Sri Harsi Teteki, and Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) represented by Dra. Rita Endang, Apt., M.Kes, Director of Drug Production Supervision, Narcotics, Psychotropics and Precursors and Director of Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation Ministry of PPN / Bappenas, Ir. Wisnu Utomo, M.Sc.

    The provision of the mOPV2 vaccine is a trust of The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to Bio Farma, which is a continuation of requests from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and - WHO in August 2018, to carry out mOPV2 stockpiling to anticipate a global viral outbreak wild polio type 2.

    Sri Harsi Teteki said, the total contract for providing mOPV2 vaccine with UNICEF was 60 million doses, and for technical delivery to the destination country would be arranged by UNICEF.

     "Alhamdulillah, Bio Farma won the trust of UNICEF in June 2019, for the supply of 60 million doses of mOPV2 vaccine products. From the 60 million doses, we will send the first 3.4 million doses to Angola in the form of finished products, "said Sri Harsi Teteki

    Continuing the previous information, Sri Harsi Teteki revealed that besides Angola, the next planned shipment was Somalia with a total of 633 thousand doses and Ethiopia with 1.14 million doses. HSaat Bio Farma is communicating intensively with UNICEF regarding its delivery schedule.

    Sri Harsi added that besides 60 million doses of finished products, Bio Farma was also asked to provide 350 million doses of mOPV2 in the form of bulk (concentrated mOPV2 vaccine). The supply of mOPV2 in bulk is also part of the Global Bulk Stockpile as requested by GPEI-WHO through UNICEF as WHO procurement agency. Jo
