Deputy Governor of West Java: Community has Important Role Against Narcotics

BANDUNG CITY - Based on data from the Provincial Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of West Java, the number of drug abuse in West Java reaches 800 thousand people or 1.7% of the population. This number has the potential to increase if the community does not play an active role in fighting drugs.

As stated by the Deputy Governor of West Java, Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, when he was the supervisor of the commemoration ceremony of the National Anti Narcotics Day (HANI) 2019 at the West Sate Building, Bandung, Monday (7/15/2019).

"We invite the community, let's together with us to help eradicate not only focus on the government and the authorities because we are limited. Moreover, the circulation is organized and closed," he said.

Uu also asks the people of West Java to report to the Rukun Tangga or local law enforcement if they find or suspect drug abuse in their surrounding environment.

"If you find or suspect, report it immediately in order to realize West Java as the cleanest province of drug abuse and circulation in accordance with West Java's Birth Born Inner Vision mission," he said.

In addition, said Uu, the West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov) continues to strive to counter drug trafficking, one of which is by strengthening cooperation with law enforcement and the Regency / City Government.

"We also do not remain silent. A lot of effort has been made. Let us take advantage of this momentum by increasing the role and cooperation," he said.

According to Uu, the best way to combat drug abuse, especially for millennials, is to increase faith and piety. In addition, parental control must be improved, such as paying attention to children's activities while in a social environment.

"Hopefully Indonesia will become a superpower in 2045 by a bonus demographic that will materialize the condition that the young generation must be competitive and without drugs," he said.

West Java's BNNP has revealed 85 narcotics cases and 1 case of money laundering (TPPU) originating from narcotics crimes throughout 2018. There were 123 people named as suspects with evidence of 30.9 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1.1 tons of marijuana and 2,200 ecstasy pills.

Nationally, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Police and the TNI determined 59,575 suspected narcotics cases with evidence of 48.23 tons of methamphetamine, 41.27 tons of marijuana, and 1.8 million ecstasy items. According to Head of West Java BNNP Sufyan Sarif, this is a proof of his seriousness in combating narcotics crimes.

Sufyan also said that narcotics crimes were carried out in an organized and difficult manner to reveal. In addition, the emergence of new types of drugs or psychoactives substances also add to the challenges and obstacles of BNN and BNNP.

"74 new narcotics have been detected in Indonesia, so welcome 749 new types of narcotics," he said.

To realize West Java clean from abuse and drug trafficking, support from the community is needed. "We are following up on having done a urine test on ASN in West Java and the establishment of anti Narcotics volunteers," Sufyan said.

In the 2019 West Java 2018 HANI commemoration the symbolic destruction of confiscated items was revealed in the case of West Java BNNP and West Java Regional Police from June to July 2019, namely marijuana weighing 239 kilograms and shabu weighing 3.5 kilograms.
