NAIROBI - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil delivered a keynote speech at the opening of the first session of the UN Assembly for Settlements or Habitat Assembly UN, Monday (27/5/2019) at 11.00-11.15 time in Nairobi, Kenya or 15.00 WIB -15:15 WIB.
Emil - his nickname - delivered a speech after UN-Habitat Executive Director Madame Maimunah Mohd Syarif and before Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. In front of 1,000 delegates from 193 countries, Emil delivered a speech about 20 minutes while displaying photos of development in the city of Bandung, when he became mayor.
Emil stated that advanced society is a happy society. "My program is to make people in my city happy. Make happiness in an urban context. An urban agenda is to improve the quality of life. The developed community is a happy society," he said.
He then explained the programs which he considered were able to make Bandung citizens happy. Among them are city parks equipped with videotron, Cihampelas Skywalk, Command Center to control city conditions and communications officers in the field, Jabar Quick Response as a public complaint room and others.
Ridwan Kamil's speech received a positive response from the UN-Habitat delegation. President of the UN-Habitat Assembly Martha Delgado Peralta said, breakthrough Ridwan Kamil was very inspiring for UN-Habitat member countries to apply.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Indonesia in Kenya, Soehardjono Sastromihardjo, said that the UN-Habitat Assembly was the first assembly so that it became a historic moment for UN-Habitat. "This is a big moment for the Governor of West Java and pride for Indonesia," he said at the same place.
Uniquely, the opening of the UN-Habitat Assembly was enlivened by the Angklung performance built by the Indonesian Embassy, ??consisting of Kenyan citizens. "The coach was sent by the Indonesian Embassy for training at Saung Udjo, Bandung," said Soehardjono.
