BANDUNG CITY- The Provincial Government (Pemdaprov) of West Java targets the inflation rate during the Eid or Eid al-Fitr 2019 to be stable at 3 percent. That way, the rate of economic growth will remain at 5.5 percent.
This was conveyed by West Java Regional Secretary Iwa Karniwa when opening the Cheap Ramadan Inflation Control Bazaar event in West Java in 2019, in Ujungberung Square, Bandung City, Tuesday (05/21/19).
Assuming an inflation rate of 3 percent, West Java's economic growth will be maintained at 5.5 percent, which is one indicator of the decline in poverty and inequality between the rich and poor.
"Inflation is expected to be maintained in a three percent position, plus minus one. Thus, based on the development of inflation, we can condition it, also we can maintain economic growth in the condition of between 5.5 percent, so that this can certainly reduce poverty, "said Iwa.
Iwa also urged all people not to shop for consumer goods in excess. According to him, the supply of basic needs of the community (kepokmas) in West Java is very sufficient, so that residents no longer need to panic or hoard basic commodities more than they need.
"Shopping to the public is sufficient. Don't panic because all items are complete, all goods distribution already exists. So that the price will remain stable in fair conditions, "said Iwa.
At the same place, the Head of the Advisory and Economic Development Group of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in West Java Pribadi Santoso said West Java had high public concerns which caused an increase in inflation.
He hoped that this cheap bazaar would become one of the strategic steps in suppressing and controlling inflation. "Indeed, in West Java the biggest component is expectations. So when there are concerns, the inflation rises, even though the supply (goods) is sufficient, "explained Person.
The person also asks for the role of the mass media in the success of the government's efforts to maintain price stability and inflation. "It is expected that with a cheap bazaar, communication with the media and a good community. So we press high expectations, so that our inflation is kept stable, "he said.
The Cheap Bazaar in Ujungberung Square is a collaboration between West Java Provincial Government, Bandung City Government, and Bank Indonesia. In addition to the city of Bandung, Bank Indonesia in collaboration with the regional government also held cheap bazaars in six other regions which according to the Central Statistics Agency are categorized as vulnerable to inflation. The six regions are Cirebon, Tasikmalaya, Sukabumi, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi. (*)
