CIREBON CITY - Regional Secretary of West Java Province (Secretary of West Java) Iwa Karniwa provided direction and officially opened the activities of the Regional Forum for Tourism and Culture Program Year 2019, at Luxton Hotel and Convention, R.A. Kartini Street No. 60 Cirebon, Thursday (3/21/2019). In his direction, Iwa Regional Secretary wanted tourism to develop more in West Java.
According to Iwa, the tourism sector's contribution to Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in some districts / cities is relatively low even though it has considerable tourism potential. This is due to the lack of infrastructure support such as road access, transportation and directions to reach integrated locations in tourist locations, promotion carried out by the provincial and district / city governments is not maximized, management of tourist destinations that are less professional, until extortion and levies multiple in tourist locations.
In addition, there are also other inhibiting factors such as exploitation of the situation in tourist sites, still low protection and appreciation of local culture, the lack of optimal promotion of local culture at home and abroad, and the strong influence of foreign culture on local culture in West Java.
"Once a friend of mine called, he ate at a tourist location, the bill was up to one million rupiah. This makes visitors give up coming again, "said Iwa.
"Therefore, the management of tourist sites must be really considered. Including the revitalization plan of the square in various regions. (alun-alun) This is quite interesting for tourists, "he added.
The direction of the Secretary of Iwa was supported by the statement of Acting Cirebon Regent Dicky Saromi, who was present at the event. According to him, at this time there has been a phenomenon of changes in the pattern of consumption of society towards leisure economy, where previously tourism was only enjoyed by the upper middle class, but now the lower middle class has already begun planning tourism trips. Not only tourism, this phenomenon also includes culinary consumption and other entertainment.
"In the past, tourism only applies to high-class people, now all circles have started planning their tours," Dicky said in his speech.
For that, he said, infrastructure support such as transportation and road access to tourist sites is very important. Such as the construction of toll roads that have felt a positive impact on the income of Cirebon Regency.
"Horehi's tax revenue (Hotel-Restaurant-Entertainment) Cirebon has increased significantly, because of good access to Cirebon," he continued.
