BANDUNG - The Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law and Security (Kemenko Polhukam) of the Republic of Indonesia held a meeting to discuss the importance of the role of the press in the success of the election at the Coordination and Consultation of Public Information & Mass Media forum (March 20, 2019). This forum was held at the El Royale Bandung Grand Ballroom Hotel.
The Public Information & Mass Media Coordination and Consultation Forum focuses on the role of the press in the success of elections and public information transparency.
"Our goal is to hold this forum in order to maximize the role of the press in promoting quality elections and public independence about obtaining information," said Yosep Adi Prasetyo, Chair of the Indonesian Press Council.
The press or media in the elections themselves can play a role in developing public participation, educating voters on how to use their democratic rights, reporting on the development of election campaigns, and providing information regarding platforms for political parties.
Regarding public information disclosure, the main goal is the establishment of clean and good governance for the government. The KIP Law is needed and strengthens press freedom because this Law regulates the mechanism of information delivery, access costs, information classification, the period of information provision, and the delivery of information to the public in various formats.
