BANDUNG REGENCY-President Joko Widodo Sunday morning, March 10, 2019, reviewed the Nanjung tunnel development project located in Bandung Regency, West Java. This tunnel is one of the government's major efforts to fix the Citarum River while at the same time controlling flooding that is common in the South Bandung region.
"This tunnel has actually been planned for a very long time. Fifteen years ago. This is an old plan, reviewed, now in the process we are working on," said the President at the project site located in Margaasih District, Bandung Regency.
The construction of two tunnels with a length of 230 meters is expected to overcome flooding in the area, especially around the area of ??Dayeuhkolot, Baleendah, and Bojongsoang.
"(Floods) can be greatly reduced by the presence of tunnels and other physical works in Citarum," said the President.
The construction began in 2017 and is part of the massive improvement of the Citarum River from upstream to downstream in the Harum Citarum program. In addition to building tunnels, the government also made other efforts, such as rehabilitating deforested lands along the Citarum River Basin and normalizing four Citarum tributaries.
To note, the Nanjung tunnel was built as a solution to overcome the narrowing of the Citarum River channel at that point due to the hilly contour at Jompong Curug. As a result, the flow of water from upstream to downstream to the Saguling Reservoir in West Bandung Regency is often hampered.
From the observation on the location, it can be seen that the construction of one tunnel can be completed. The Head of State estimates that one other tunnel will be completed by the end of 2019.
"This one has been completed, one is half more. In the end of this year, God willing, it will be completed so that later the following rainy season the function of this tunnel will be seen," the President said.
In addition, the government is also working on a number of infrastructure handling floods such as the creation of the Cieunteung Dayeuhkolot retention pool, Gedebage embung, Ciantig – Citepus River floodway and Cisangkuy River.
"The government wants the Citarum River to be clean again, it can be used for the daily lives of residents in West Java, processed into clean water, and good for irrigation," the President wrote in his Instagram account on February 20, 2019.
Also accompanying the President in this review were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, and Bandung Regent Dadang Naser. (Even)
