JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo welcomed the results of the AFF U-22 Cup final which brought together Indonesia and Thailand on Tuesday night (26/2). In the match, the Young Garuda outperformed Thailand and came out as champions.
For the President, this match and victory shows the real spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika owned by the Garuda Muda team. Coming from different regions and backgrounds, making differences manifest as a great power.
"The Indonesian U-22 national team players come from various regions, tribes, and religions. On the field, the difference is transformed into harmony and strength that produces the title," he said on a personal Instagram account on Tuesday night, February 26, 2019.
He hopes that the title gained will be his own inspiration for the world of football in the country as well as being the beginning of the rise of national football.
"I hope this victory will be the beginning of the rise and progress of Indonesian football. From my country, I congratulate the Indonesian U-22 national team!" he said.
Release from State Secretariat, in the final match held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Indra Sjafri's young Garuda managed to turn things around to 2-1 after earlier being left behind. Goals Sani Rizki Fauzi and Osvaldo Haay became the deciding championship holders of the Young Garuda. (Even)
