MAJALENGKA - The Runway progress of West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati has entered the final stage. It is estimated that in April 2019 the airport in Majalengka Regency will be up to 3,000 meters long and can be fully functional.
The physical extension of the runway carried out by PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II is estimated to be completed by the end of January 2019. Furthermore, there is work on supporting infrastructure such as markers and Landing System Instruments (ILS) as landing devices and Airfield Lighting Systems (ALS) to support air side facilities This Kertajati Airport.
"The actual runway construction has reached 100 percent by the end of January, but other infrastructure is still needed according to aviation safety standards," said PT BIJB Airport Operation and Performance Group Head Agus Sugeng Widodo in Majalengka, Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
After physical with the PCN (Pavement Classification) Classification or 89 runway strength, work continues on the Airfield Lighting System (ALS) as a visual landing aid to the pilot. ALS comes in the form of symmetrical installed lights on the runway.
In line with runway air side expansion is also carried out for the aircraft parking area or apron. The apron expansion will be completed more quickly in December 2018. The area that was originally only able to accommodate 10, can now reach the capacity of 22 aircraft.
"The aircraft's parking area has doubled where it is now 22. Four for wide body parking and 16 parking narrow bodies," he added.
The addition of this air side facility according to Agus, can already be used maximally in April 2019. First, the Ministry of Transportation as a regulator conducted verification to ensure the safety of aircraft that want to fly or land at Kertajati West Java International Airport.
With a runway length of 3,000 meters, Agus stated the readiness of long distance flights from Kertajati Airport. Moreover, this airport is also staring at 2019 Hajj flights and the transition of Umrah flights from West Java from Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK). With a runway length of 3,000 meters it is believed that wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 or Airbus A380 can land smoothly at Kertajati Airport.
"We, from the Airport side, stated their readiness if the government wants a Hajj flight from here with a runway length of up to 3,000 meters, because wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 can land directly here," he said.
