BANDUNG - The World Health Organization (WHO) noted that Non-Communicable Diseases (PTM) are estimated to cause 73 percent of deaths in Indonesia. Based on the results of the Ministry of Health's 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the prevalence of various PTMs such as cancer, stroke, chronic kidney disease and hypertension has increased.
Hypertension rose from 25.8 percent to 34.1 percent, the prevalence of stroke rose from 7 percent to 10.9 percent, chronic kidney disease rose from 2 percent to 3.8 percent, and the prevalence of cancer rose from 1.4 percent to 1, 8 percent.
PTM also has the potential to cause financial difficulties. Based on the study of "ASEAN Cost in Oncology" (ACTION), which was conducted from 2014-2015, it was revealed that out of 9,513 patients with cancer who were studied further, almost 50 percent went bankrupt and 29 percent died.
