BANDUNG-West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) reviewing development projects of the hydro power plant (PLTA) Upper Cisokan Cisokan Storage (UCPS), in Rongga District, West Bandung regency, on Wednesday (16/03/16).
UCPS hydropower has capacity of 4 x 260 megawatts (MW), planed to begin full commercial operations in 2020. The construction stage consists of the road construction, access road construction, Upper and Lower Dam construction, Power House and aqueduct, and switchyard construction and construction of 500 kV Transmission Line.
"It's already been around to dam up. There also seen weir below. Next, from the two dams will be present Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), which is Upper Cisokan PLTA with its unique technology,” said Governor Aher.
With two existing dams, water is pumped from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir using the residual thermal energy which taken from the system interconnect Java - Bali when the load is low at midnight or early morning.
During the peak hours between 17:00 to 10:00 p.m., water flowed from the upper reservoir to the lower reservoir through two tunnels and penstock to the powerhouse to generate electrical energy.
Cisokan hydropower is expected to increase the supply of energy during peak loads, as backup generation facilities if a decreased capacity on the network and to helps regulate the overall system frequency between 49 and 51 Hz.
Overall installed capacity of 1,040 MW with Pumped Storage system is the first in Indonesia.
"This is a new and renewable energy, which of its resources in West Java are very adequate water resources. It will be the largest hydropower plant in the history in Indonesia. This capacity is 260 MW x 4 so 1040,” said Aher.
"I hope this will be a new energy that can meet the needs in Indonesia, the needs of industry, households, and also any kind of needs. It entered into the program of 35,000 megawatts electric national volume,” he added.
