BANDUNG - Minister of Communication and Information, Rudiantara made a working visit in Ternate and continued to Morotai (2/1/19) to check Palapa Middle Ring.

"This shows complementarity between the operators and BAKTI (Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency). Operators mostly focus on areas that are feasible on a business basis, while BAKTI focuses on areas that are not feasible on a business basis, "said Rudiantara shortly after trying out a video call in Morotai as broadcast by PT Len Public Relations Wednesday (2/1).

He explained that BAKTI has the authority to build telecommunications infrastructure in 122 districts that are not business-feasible so that the needs of the community remain underserved.

The construction phase of the Palapa Ring Paket Tengah project has been completed and has been operating commercially or COD (Commercial Operation Date) as of December 21, 2018. This is indicated by the receipt of the Central Package Palaparing Project Facility by the Director of the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), Anang Latif conducted at BAKTI Head Office Jakarta on Friday (12/21/18).

Managing Director of PT Len Telekomunikasi Indonesia, R.W. Pantja Gelora said the operation of the Central Package Palapa Ring, 17 cities and regencies in Central Indonesia could immediately enjoy broadband networks. This is a government effort to realize the 3rd Nawacita.

Present at the COD was Aswan Hamonangan, Director of Engineering & Operations at PT LTI, - Ilham Nugraha, Head of PT LTI's Operation & Maintenance Division, and Feriandi Mirza, Head of BAKTI's Backbone Infrastructure Division. PT Len Telekomunikasi Indonesia (PT LTI) is a implementing Business Entity (BUP) and manager of the Central Palapa Ring Package based on a Cooperation Agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information in 2016. PT LTI is one of the red plate subsidiaries from Bandung, PT Len Industri ( Persero).

"This project uses the availability payment scheme, namely the government or the Ministry of Communication and Information only starts paying for the replacement of investors' capital in the project after the project operates. Thanks also to the Indonesian Infrastructure Guarantee Corporation (Persero), PT Surveyor Indonesia (Persero), and BNI, IIF and SMI as landers who have always supported us so far, "added Pantja.

Last October 2018, BAKTI stated that the Palapa Ring Central Package was in demand by 23 telecommunications operators, including Telkom, Telkomsel and Moratelindo. There are five segments with two of them which are not connected by sea cables. Previously, trials had been carried out per section section and as a whole section.

The Palapa Ring Central Package project valued at around Rp1.38 trillion currently connects 1,326.22 Km landline cables and 1,787.06 Km longer than the development plan, through 17 districts in Central Indonesia, namely in North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and North Maluku.

Palapa Ring is a backbone infrastructure project for broadband telecommunications networks (broadband) in the form of optical fiber construction that stretches throughout Indonesia which was built by telecommunications operators and partly built by the government.
