4 Dies and Dozens of Houses Buried in Cisolok Landslides

BANDUNG - Four people were found dead and dozens of houses were buried by landslides that occurred in Cimapag Village, Sinaresmi Village, Cisolok District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java Province, on Monday (31/12) at 17.00 WIB.

According to the Head of the Data Information and Public Relations Center for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, heavy rains that flushed around Sirnaresmi Village caused surface flow in the forest and paddy fields and saturated water to cause hillsides and material to slide down the slopes and hoard dozens of houses.

"It is estimated that 8 people were buried by landslides, where 4 people were evacuated in dead condition, 4 other victims in evacuation efforts and about 34 houses were buried," said Sutopo, through a release received on Monday (31/12).

Sutopo said, the District BPBD together with the TNI, Police, National Army, local officials, volunteers and the community evacuated, searched and rescued the victims, but because of the rainy and dark weather due to the power outages and cellular communication was difficult, the evacuation efforts will continue tomorrow morning .

"Data collection is still being carried out to ensure the number of victims and houses are buried by landslides. Access roads to the landslide location are steep, rocky roads and added rainy weather to make it difficult for teams to evacuate," he said. (Parno)
