BANDUNG - West Java Deputy Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum said that currently the function of the mosque is narrowing. The mosque is currently only used as a place of worship Mahdhah, such as prayer and recitation, but also need to be developed again as a center of civilization.
Like the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, the mosque became the center of human civilization where various activities of the people were carried out. According to Uu, the function of the mosque needs to be developed for various activities that can strengthen the ummah or the worship of Ghairu Mahdhah, namely the worship of social interaction.
For this reason, mosques can be used as a place for discussion of politics, economic activities, and various other social activities. This was revealed by Uu during the opening of the National Seminar with the theme: "Revitalizing the Role of Mosques Toward Islamic Development in the Context of West Java Born Birth" in Bale Asri Pusdai Building, Jl. Diponegoro, Bandung, Thursday (12/27/18).
"The service of Ghairu Mahdhah seems not to be worship but it is for the benefit of the people, it is the value of worship," Uu said.
"So in the mosque, not only talking about zakat, prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, or anything else, but please talk about the economy in the mosque, talk about social," he said.
Uu said, the people should not be trapped by statements that say that mosques can only be used for worship such as prayer alone. Political, economic or other discussions can be part of worship if for the benefit of the people.
"When talking politically for the benefit of the people, for the good of religion, worship is done. Talking about the economy in a mosque with the aim of benefiting the people is worship," explained Uu.
Limitation of activities in mosques is when an activity is used as an arena for disputes and disunity. If the purpose is for the good and progress of the people, the mosque can be a place to gather.
"Limitation (activities in mosques) is for the benefit of the people. The limits are not prohibited from talking about economics or politics in mosques, but prohibited from talking politics in mosques which become an arena of division, the arena of incitement," he said.
Meanwhile, a national seminar was held in the framework of the 21st Anniversary of West Java Pusdai to compile a blue print that could become the basis of all mosques in West Java. In addition, the purpose of this seminar is to give birth to intellectual agreements so that mosques can be a source of civilization, enlightenment, and empowerment of the people.
The seminar was attended by hundreds of participants who were representatives of various Islamic mass organizations in West Java.
