MEDAN-President Joko Widodo officially opened the 27th national Musabaqoh Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) at the Medan Astaka Main Arena on Sunday night(10/07/2018). That way, 1550 caravans from 34 provinces throughout Indonesia are ready to compete for the title in MTQ held until October 13, 2018 in Medan City and Deli Serdang Regency.
Accompanied by the Minister of Religion and Governors, including the Vice Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, President Jokowi invited the public to view the MTQ title not only about Al-Qur'an reading contest alone. But as an injection of energy for Muslims in Indonesia to ground the Qur'an in the daily life of a Muslim.
"MTQ is not just a routine activity but I invite to make MTQ an injection of energy for Muslims in Indonesia to ground the Qur'an in the real world," said the President.
When in MTQ, the Qur'an was read with tajwid and melodious tones, Jokowi also asked to reflect on and understand the meaning it contained.
"I hope that this national MTQ will become one of the sources of coolness and abundance of our brotherhood," he said.
Jokowi believes that if the values contained in the Qur'an are treated and applied in everyday life, there will be no more slander, cursing and friction between fellow countrymen in Indonesia.
Not only recitations or readings and tafidzah or memorization are contested in MTQ this time. But there are also calligraphy competitions and scientific works. Minister of Religion Lukman Hakim Syaifudin said there was a new innovation in the MTQ event, namely the implementation of e-MTQ for registration. For the choice of race material and the judging process also use the application.
"This is a form of adaptation in the digital era and shows that religious rays are not stagnant but will always be dynamic and adaptive," Lukman said.
The implementation of MTQ this time has also been made a code of ethics for judges as an effort to maintain the sanctity of the Qur'an to carry out the nobility of judicial conduct.
The West Java contingent sent 60 of its best and experienced caravans. Coupled with 10 companions, 22 coaches and 35 officials. West Java Vice Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum is optimistic that West Java will be able to win the overall title.
"We have a great opportunity to become the overall champion and we will win again," said Uu.
