The Indonesian House of Representatives Sets Early Drugs and Food Bill 2019

BANDUNG-The House of Representatives Commission IX is targeting the ratification of the Draft Bill on Drugs and Food Control in January 2019, in turn will expand the authority of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) in the supervision of drugs and food.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission IX, Dede Yusuf said, until now the regulation had entered the Working Committee and only asked opinions from various parties when it was later passed no one was harmed.

"The Draft Bill on Drugs and Food is the initiative of the DPR RI, and we are trying to explore the support of the citizens as stakeholder, what is the importance of it," he said.

According to Dede, currently counterfeiting of drugs sold online is still a lot of illegal imported goods will kill local industries, especially drugs and food.

"In the current free market era many medicines are sold online and do not rule out the possibility of counterfeiting of drugs sold," said Dede, at the Pramuka park on Martadinata street Bandung, Sunday (07/10).

Dede said, with the enactment of the Draft Drug and Food Control Bill, it would protect local producers from free market competition, including the presence of illegal drugs sold online.

"Now, there are obstacles in ratifying the regulation because the average lokan producer is reluctant to take care of the drug licenses are produced which ultimately produce illegal products," he said. (Parno)
