PMI volunteers are ready to "take care" of Citarum

PURWAKARTA - The Minister of Social Affairs, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, said that the cleanliness of the Citarum river as the artery of West Java is a fixed price.

"While this environmental damage can have implications for social disasters, we are ready to help. Including, supporting the Citarum program is fragrant," Minister of Social Affairs Agus said at the opening ceremony of the Indonesian Red Cross Volunteer Work Meeting (PMI) in Jatiluhur Reservoir, Purwakarta, West Java, Monday (17/09/2018) afternoon.

Agus explained, in the humanitarian mission, the role of PMI volunteers was not only to deal with victims of natural disasters. However, environmental damage is a shared responsibility, including the work of PMI volunteers in it.

"So the moment to meet this work is very appropriate, because the location is right on the lips of the Jatiluhur Reservoir," Agus said.

Deputy Governor of West Java, Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, said that all parties could support the realization of the Citarum Harum program. Including, PMI volunteers who have the task of realizing social welfare.

Meanwhile, the Citarum Harum mission is also a humanitarian mission that is closely related to social welfare.

So, continued Uu, the Government and PMI, along with all stakeholders, are obliged to strive for the welfare of the community, especially related to the revitalization of the Citarum river.

"PMI has a very large role. In West Java the role of PMI is very much felt by the community, PMI is very helpful to the Government in helping humanitarian issues," said Uu.

Because of that, said Uu, the momentum of the Gathering of the Work became a means to bring change to a better direction. Uu advised, that PMI was always successful and existed in carrying out humanitarian missions.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Executing Work Meeting of PMI Volunteers, Muhammad Muas admitted, of the 5,790 volunteers present, his party would deploy around 1,000 volunteers to move in the Citarum Harum program.

"Some of them are by cleaning garbage, planting trees, and making bio pores," he said.

The PMI Volunteer Work Meeting itself will take place on 17-22 September 2018. Even at the event which coincides with the 73rd anniversary of the PMI is a momentum to uphold solidarity and the spirit of heroism of the volunteers.

"Volunteers are a universal value, helping others is the simplest form," he said.
