BANDUNG - The results of the Retail Sales Survey (SPE) in May 2018 showed the real sales index (IPR) was recorded lower than the previous month from 235.9 to 234.6 in May 2018. IPR decline was mainly triggered by competition factors with other similar products.
Meanwhile, retail sales performance in Bandung in May 2018 grew by -26.1% (yoy), lower than last month's growth of -23.2% (yoy). The majority of annual performance of retail sales of goods groups has negative growth.
Deputy Head of BI Jabar Ismed Inon said the lowest growth of retail sales performance occurred in Food, Beverage and Tobacco Group (-33.5% yoy); Information and Communication Equipment Group (-21.1% yoy); Group of Other Household Appliances (-17.0% yoy); Clothing Group (-15.6% yoy); Other Goods Group (-12.7% yoy); as well as the Vehicle Fuel Group (-4.8% yoy).
Meanwhile only the Spare Parts and Accessories Group; and Cultural and Recreational Goods Group which has positive growth of 2.0% (yoy) and 0.7% (yoy) respectively.
The retail sales performance is predicted to increase in June 2018 due to high demand in the middle of long holiday, indicated by the increasing number of IPR estimates and they are at the level of 234.7. This condition is in line with the earnings indicators reflected in the Index
Current income in West Java Consumer Survey results in June 2018, increasing from 119.2 to 122.9 in June 2018. In annual terms, retail sales performance is predicted to grow by -26.9% (yoy).
This is because the IPR of the majority of the goods group is predicted to increase but has negative annual growth, among others Food, Beverage and Tobacco Group (-32.5% yoy); Clothing Group (-30.4% yoy); Equipment and Communications Group (-24.2% yoy); Other Goods Group (-24.1% yoy); Group of Other Household Appliances (-19.6% yoy); Group of Vehicle Fuel (-6.3% yoy); Group of Cultural and Recreational Goods (-4.2% yoy); and Group of Parts and Accessories (-2.1% yoy). jo
