MAJALENGKA - West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in a review to West Java International Airport (BIJB), in Kertajati District, Majalengka District. In his visit, Jokowi said he was happy with the progress achieved by PT BIJB, as the airport development executor.
Jokowi admitted two years ago or in January 2016 lay the first stone, as a marker of the commencement of the construction of the international-level airport. Then on Tuesday April 17, 2018, he re-reviewed the airport which currently progress has reached the final phase of development or 93 percent.
"We remember two years ago or about January 2016 there was the first stake, then two years less, this has been done in accordance with the target time we have given," said Jokowi in his statement to reporters in the terminal area of Kertajati Airport.
According to him, if the development has reached the final stage in April, the airport Kertajati not only can serve Hajj flight but Lebaran 201r, but also regular flights. Prior to regular flights, Jokowi wanted on May 24 to be tested flight back. This is to ensure security before the airport will serve regular flights.
"Insyaallah next month, May 24th try, we will try to start, we will see if there are still things we need to improve here," said Jokowi.
He acknowledged that he had coordinated with PT BIJB, Angkasa Pura (AP) II and Garuda Indonesia Airlines to serve the public, especially West Java for air transportation needs. Because West Java with the largest population in Indonesia is supposed to have an international airport.
With a capacity of 5.6 million passengers in the first stage and standing on a land of 1,800 ha, said Jokowi, Kertajati airport has been very representative to serve the mode of transportation. "This can be used for the hajj that departed from Airport Kertajati I asked Angkasa Pura to be ready Garuda is also ready, the flow of homecoming is also ready," he explained.
