    Rehabilitation of Citarum, Jokowi Will Monitor 3 Months Once


    BANDUNG REGENCY- West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) accompanied the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo planted trees in the upstream area of the Citarum river precisely on land owned by PTPN in Tarumajaya village, Kertasari Regency Bandung on Thursday (22/02/2018), indicating the commencement of rehabilitation the Citarum basin. Also present and planted, Living Environment Minister Siti Nurbaya, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadi Muldjono, and Bandung Regent Dadang Naser.

    Jokowi arrived at the location immediately planted manglid trees that have the character of fine wood, solid and strong. Pangdam III Siliwangi and West Java Police Chief and 3 thousand villagers also took part in planting 18 thousand tree seedlings from a total of 293 thousand seedlings that have been deployed, with a target of 125 million trees in the upper Citarum river. Types of trees grown in the form of ecological and economical trees, such as coffee, tea, resin trees, manglid, puspa, rasamala, saninten and local endemic trees.

    In front of the media Jokowi said the rehabilitation of the Citarum river from upstream, middle to downstream is a big and long work that takes about 7 years to complete the Citarum water source can be felt by 28 million citizens of West Java and Jakarta.

    "We have calculated that this great work from upstream downstream will be completed in 7 years," said President.

    To ensure that the rehabilitation runs smoothly, President Jokowi will monitor workmanship on a regular basis every three to six months.

    "I will see it regularly, maybe every three months or every six months to ensure that the program is really running, I see that it has been given here by PTPN 980 hectare for the nursery, for planting and for relocation, then Perhutani also gives the land which we hope we can soon be green again, "he explained.

    According Jokowi, rehabilitation is not only done in the upper river only but integrated in the middle to downstream such as handling pollution and industrial waste. Rehablilitation itself is done mutual cooperation involving, central government, provincial, district and city.

    "Everything will be done in an integrated manner by the central government, all the involved Ministries, Provincial, District and most importantly the area of Kodam III Siliwangi and West Java Police, all done in mutual cooperation for the rehabilitation of this Citarum watershed," said Jokowi.

    After conducting the planting, President Jokowi and his entourage monitor the condition of Cisanti or zero kilometer Citarum river. On the occasion Jokowi release 2 eagle birds symbolically. Followed by a dialogue with representatives of residents who live in the Citarum watershed area in bale sawala.

    "It's been a long time Citarum River is less we take care but by saying Bismillah this February we make a momentum to start this great work," Jokowi determination.

    West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) said, the launching of this rehabilitation will become the legal umbrella in the implementation of integrated programs and activities along the Citarum watershed. According to him, handling Citarum River requires synergy between the central and local governments. The 269 Km Citarum River that flows in 12 administrative areas has become a livelihood for 28 million people.

    "Citarum River has a very strategic role, in addition to irrigation agriculture area of ??420 thousand hectares is also a vein of 28 million people.If not synergistic any program Citarum will remain like this," he said.

    West Java provincial government itself has made many programs and activities to cope with pollution and damage Citarum. Like the Citarum Vibration movement and continued with the Citarum Bestari movement. Now the central government gives full attention to involving all parties through structural, non-structural and cultural approaches.

    "It turns out that what we are doing is getting attention from the President with the Citarum River Basin damage control so that the handling of Citarum can be completed by all levels of government and the whole community from upstream to downstream," he said.
