    Red Onion Triggers Inflation in West Java


    BANDUNG REGENCY- West Java Provincial Representative of West Java, Wiwiek Sisto Widayat said the signing of a memorandum of understanding on agricultural commodity agribusiness development program onion with Unpad and Bandung Regency Government, in an effort to increase food security and inflation control in West Java Province.

    "Onion Commodity is one of the commodities that trigger inflation in West Java," said Wiwiek, after the MoU of Agribusiness Development Program of Commodity onion, at Mekarmanik Village, Cimenyan District, Bandung Regency, Tuesday (30/01).

    According to Wiwiek, during the period of 3 consecutive years since 2015-2017, onion commodity is often a trigger of inflation with a contribution to inflation of 1.24 percent.

    "The development of agribusiness through the cluster development program undertaken by the central bank is an effort in controlling inflation directed at food security commodities, commodity sources of inflationary pressure and export-oriented," he said.

    Wiwiek said that although inflation in West Java province is the lowest compared to other provinces, it must continue to make efforts to maintain the condition so that there will be no turbulence due to rising food prices in the market.

    "West Java province is the lowest inflation and we maintain with various efforts including maintaining the stability of the food sector through various programs with farmers," he said. (Parno)
