BANDUNG - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Java (West Java) mentions deflation during October 2017 that is equal to - 0.01%, inversely related to the national inflation of 0.01%.
Head of West Java BPS Dodi Herlando said deflation was boosted by three deflation-affected cities, where the highest deflation was in Depok by 0.19%. While the highest inflation occurred in the city of Bogor by 0.26%.
"Deflation was driven by the decline in food prices, which reached 0.08% while the highest price increase occurred in the food, beverages and cigarettes by 0.03%," he said on Wednesday (1/11).
He mentioned that foodstuffs that experienced price decline during the month of October is chicken meat by 0.05%. Other commodities that also come down are onion, garlic, potato and cayenne pepper. Rice is still rising, up by 0.03%.
"The increase in rice because it is not harvest season, there is a honey plant but a little production," explained Dodi.
With a two-month stay, he said the government's target to keep inflation below 4% will be achieved. "Year to date or January to October inflation recorded 2.84%, so still enough room until the target of 4% can still be achieved," he said.Jo
