BANDUNG - West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan H stated that the draft law (Raperda) which initiated by West Java Legislative Council (DPRD) on Protection and Empowerment of Fishermen is important discussed hereinafter designated as the West Java Regional Regulation on the Protection and Empowerment of Fishermen.
“The Regional Regulation (Perda) of Fishermen is important to defend the fishermen community groups. Fishermen and farmers are the majority of 55 percent of the total Indonesia’s population. If they were well defended, it’s equal to solve 55 percent of Indonesian’s population problem. Especially for fishermen, they need a guidance and protection for empowering them,” said the Governor after attending the Plenary Session of West Java Parliament related to discussion of the draft law on the Protection and Empowerment of Fishermen, Bandung, on Monday (18/1).
The existence of the regulation is to strengthen the efforts of West Java provincial government providing protection and empowerment of the fishermen.
“Don’t get me wrong that we are concern to fishermen just based on this Perda. This regulation aimed to strengthen our alignments become stronger, more powerful, and more secure institutionally,” he said.
Governor expects in the future, government are increasingly able to defend the fishermen for increasing the fishermen’s welfare.
