BANDUNG - Perum Perhutani will cooperate with the West Java provincial government to develop agroforestry of forest areas in West Java. This was revealed in a meeting between West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan with the Managing Director of Perhutani Mustoha Iskandar in Pakuan Building, Bandung, on Tuesday morning (12/01/16).
Aher disclosed this program conducted as an effort to improve the welfare of communities around forest areas and Watershed (DAS).
"Silahturahmi in coordinating to empower communities around watershed areas, then we will establish cooperation in forestry usage integrated area," said Aher.
Aher added that communities around watershed areas could utilise existing land for farming, so this step is performed as part of the rescue effort of the watershed itself.
Meanwhile, President Director of Perum Perhutani Mustoha Iskandar said many watersheds need to be handled properly. So that the program is expected able to prevent erosion of the forest area, in particular watershed.
“Through this agroforestry is expected to restrain the rate of erosion, that can withstand the flooding in downstream areas," said Mustoha.
This program was not only going to be applied in the area of Perhutani in West Java, but it will cover the entire of Perhutani’s area throughout Indonesia.
