BANDUNG-Head of Food Crops and Horticulture (Kadistan) of West Java, Hendi Jatnika revealed ahead of the dry season of the northern part of West Java more rapidly experiencing drought compared with the southern region.
Some of these areas are generally located on the northern coast (Pantura) such as Indramayu and Cirebon.
"In West Java when the vulnerability is different, usually the northern part of the faster dry season and then the south," he told reporters in Bandung, Wednesday (9/8/2017).
Hendi mentioned about 364 hectares of rice fields that have difficulty in water. Drought occurs in Bandung Regency area, such as in District Baleendah, Majalengka, Indramayu in Gabuswetan, Cikedung, Kandanghaur,Harjamukti, Mundu including Jatitujuh pantura area.
"Until June, there were reports of droughts, 364 hectares of paddy fields suffered from drought, while July has not been included in the report," he said.
Although there are droughts in some areas, but Distan Jabar until now has not received reports of puso.
"It's been reported that last June there was a drought, but there's no puso, hopefully no one," he said.
To minimize, farmers are encouraged not to force rice cultivation on unfettered lands during the dry season. Actually, during the dry season there are also irrigated fields by utilizing other water sources, for example from the river using a water pump.
"But if it is far from water source and not reachable by pump, it is better to replace the commodity, with corn or other crops," he concluded. (MAT)
