Minister of Agriculture Says Indonesia Is No More Imported Maize

BANDUNG-Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia (Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia) Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed one of the successess of the mechanization system in agricultural processing i.e. the government in August no longer import corn.

"Usually every August we import 2.5 million tons of corn, but with mechanization, today we do not import corn anymore," he told reporters in Bandung, Tuesday (08/08/2017)

Although now there is an increase in corn prices, said Minister of Agriculture, the condition is fairly reasonable. The reason is to encourage the welfare of corn farmers. But the government still gives the upper limit of the corn price.

"Let the corn farmers benefit from the sale, which is important we give the upper limit," he said.

According to him, if the farmers want to continue to cultivate their agricultural land by not moving or switching professions then should be given a profit in the sale.

"We already have a balance of Rp3.110 price at the level of farmers sold to the factory around Rp4.000-4.500," he concluded. (MAT)
