BANDUNG-National Geopark Region Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu (GNCP) will be visited by UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG) on August 1st - 4th. This visitation will be the assessment of the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu area as UNESCO world-class Geopark.
The recognition of Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu as world class Geopark is an effort that continues to be rolled out by West Java Provincial Government. In its embodiment, West Java Provincial Government took a number of parties, such as Padjadjaran University, Sukabumi Regency Government, and PT. Biofarma, Tbk.
The contribution of Universitas Padjadjaran in developing Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu into UNESCO's Geopark Global is increasing. This contribution is an added value compared to other geopark proposals in Indonesia where Unpad is the only university involved in proposing geopark in Indonesia.
"After being designated as a National Geopark, Unpad continues to encourage research activities in Ciletuh," said Arief from Public Relation Unpad, in his press statement on Monday (31/7).
Although the main research focus in Ciletuh is divided into three aspects, namely Geology, Biodiversity, and Culture, but Unpad Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad encourage all scientific fields in Unpad to participate in doing research there.
The activities of UNESCO team in Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu will visit a number of geopark potentials in the region. Community involvement in the visitation was evident from the explanation of the GNCP program education program.
UNESCO team will also visit the Walagri Padjadjaran Earth Building which is also the location of Unpad Geopark and Disaster Research Center at Surade, Ujung Genteng, at 3 Agutus. At that location, the Geopark Research Center team headed by Prof. Mega will also exhibit some activities and research results of academic Unpad that has been done in Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu area.
The visit of UNESCO assessor team will be integrated with "Unpad Summer Program 2017". A number of Unpad Summer Program students come from various universities abroad.
