    Social Affairs Minister: Anticipation Radicalism Action, Tagana Serves Psychosocial


    BANDUNG-Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos), Khofifah Indar Parawansa asked Taruna Siaga Bencana (Tagana) take part in counteracting radicalism and terrorism that threatens the existence of NKRI.

    One of them will prepare a team of psychosocial support services that understand how to approach persuasively and effectively in order to reduce their radical understanding tension and at the same time instill the soul of nationalism.

    "Anti-Pancasila Radical movement must be watch out for by society from all elements in Indonesia, not to mention Tagana," said Khofifah in his official statement in Bandung, Thursday (20/7/2017).

    Khofifah said, facts show that not only natural disasters need victims treatment comprehensively. Like the last two years, the Ministry of Social Affairs has the task to dealing with Turkish deportants who allegedly identified as part of ISIS.

    Khofifah added that Tagana should also be equipped with understanding of state defense and the insight of the archipelago as well as the ability of psychosocial support services. Tagana must be aware that Indonesia extends from Sabang to Merauke and consists of many tribes, religions, races, languages, classes, cultures, beliefs and so on, which must remain united under Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, NKRI and the 1945 Constitution.

    "State defense does not always about take up arms, but also manifested by improving the quality of Human Resources and expertise," she said.

    On the occasion, Khofifah also highlighted the characteristics of natural and social disaster victims handled by the Ministry of Social Affairs. According to her, there are vulnerable groups that require special services they are elderly, pregnant women, children and people with disabilities.

    Tagana, she added, must understand how to serve the victims of these vulnerable groups. Especially the psychosocial support team. Therefore, Tagana's role can always be relied whenever disaster happen.

    "Of course the ways of handling is different, can not be equated or use same method everytime," she added.

    Psychosocial support services, according to Social Affairs Minister, are proposed in Raker 2015 due to facts that in the field that there are many disaster victims especially vulnerable groups who need psychosocial support.

    "So Tagana has a broad purpose not only to deal with natural disasters but also social disasters, including participating in fighting Drugs and Radicalism," she said.

    About natural disasters, Khofifah explained that in 2016 there were 2,171 disasters in Indonesia and based on data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the died victim was 567, injured 489 and 2,770,814 were evacuated. While until July 2017, as many as 227 victims died, 434 wounded and 1.710.539 evacuated.

    "The data proves that the Republic of Indonesia is very vulnerable to disaster. Not to mention natural phenomena outside predictions such as the occurrence of drought and food insecurity in East Sumba due to erratic rainfall and attack of kumbara grasshopper. Tagana must be ready whenever needed, "she concluded.
