BANDUNG-The Regional Office of Ministry of Law and Human Rights of West Java has reported to the Governor of West Java regarding the condition of Penitentiary (lapas) in West Java which on average has over capacity or excess residents.
This was revealed by Head of Regional Office of Ministry of Law and Human Rights of West Java, Susy Susilawati, after meeting with Governor of West Java at Gedung Sate, Friday (28/4).
"The average of our penitentiary (lapas) and state custody house are now over (rutan) capacity, so we need additional facilities. We have already reported to the Governor, and Alhmdulillah the Governor has expressed his willingness to help build new penitentiary, especially in the area where the penitentiary is overpopulated by the residents" said Susy.
Susy said the excessive penitentiary and state custody house are in big cities, and most of the occupants were from drug cases.
"It was quite significant the addition of drug cases, more than 60 percent of prison inmates from drug cases" explained Susy.
Susy hoped that the Governor's assistance in the form of new penitentiary facilities can be realised as soon as possible, because the fear of the prisoners is increasing. (Even)
