Here are Workers' Demands in May Day 2017

BANDUNG-The mass of workers who are associated as in the Federation of Electronic and Metal Workers Union (FSP LEM SPSI) of West Java province will be focusing their May Day event in front of Gedung Sate Bandung on Monday, May 1, 2017.

The Chairman of DPD FSP LEM SPSI of West Java Province, Muhammad Sidarta said some of their demands include the Rejection of Revision Plan of Act 13 year 2003 on Employment, Unplugging PP 78/2015 on Remuneration, Canceling UMP 2017, UMSK Must be Determined By Governor at the end of December and applicable Throughout District/city in West Java for all Types of Industrial Sectors of Goods and Services.

"Governor of West Java Province must use discretion where there is a deadlock between the trade union and employers' association and where the legislation is not fully and firmly regulating unfinished sectorial minimum wage in Karawang and Purwakarta regencies, even in Bandung city," he reported to Reporters in Bandung on Wednesday (04/26/2017).

In addition, all workers also demanded the treatment of Wage Structure and Scale as regulated by the Minister of Manpower No. 1 of 2017 on Wage Structure and Scale, to reject Apprenticeship that are not in accordance with the laws and regulations, to refuse foreign workers to Protect local workers, to perform Certification for Workers to protect local workers on the rise of foreign workers in this era of MEA, to improve Professionalism and Quality of JKN Service, BPJS Health and Health Facility/Hospital for All Indonesian People and to Enforce Labor Law in West Java Province to protect workers that increasingly pose Vulnerable position.

Another thing that still becomes a polemic, continued Sudarta, is problem in wage determination process, in which West Java applies Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), District/Municipal Minimum Wage (MSE), District/Municipal Minimum Wage and Wage Structure and Scale (SUSU) , Especially with the enactment of Government Regulation No. 78/2015 on Remuneration deemed by workers against the Law No. 13 of 2003 on Manpower.

"Until today UMSK 2017 in Karawang and Purwakarta regencies cannot be ratified by the Governor of West Java because the process has not been completed in their respective districts, even UMSK 2017 in Bandung city which is the capital of West Java Province until now the progress phasing process of UMSK 2017 of Bandung city is not yet clear," he explained.

Professionalism Problems and Quality of JKN Service, BPJS Health and Facility Health/Hospital For All Indonesian people are also considered very bad and should continue to be fought with all people so that all patients of BPJS Health get a good service.

"As well as general patients who pay cash, more BPJS Health participants whose contributions have been paid by the company and participants have been paid upfront before the illness," he said.

Meanwhile the results of long struggle of the workers that have been felt are 40 Working Hours One Week, 19-20 hours a day to 8 hours a day or 40 working hours a week which is part of the struggle of about 400,000 workers in the United States on 1 May 1886 for 4 days. In addition, May 1 became a national holiday for workers to celebrate May Day more freely because it does not interfere with working hours.

"It's all the result of the long struggle of the workers since 1886, there are many more norms that must be fought together for Social Justice for All People," he concluded. (MAT)
