BANDUNG - Vice Governor of West Java Deddy Mizwar attend a commemoration Juanda Declaration 2015, which was initiated by the Society of Sundanese, Sundanese University (UNPAS), and the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), in UNPAS, Bandung, Saturday (12/12).
In his speech, Deddy stressed the importance of commemoration Juanda Declaration, in bringing the spirit of supporting Indonesian government's program to realise maritime world. According to him, Juanda Declaration is a declaration of assets territorial unity of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and became a symbol of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the archipelago sea.
As is known before Juanda Declaration, Indonesia had just around by sea only 3 miles from the coast of each island. And then the declaration proclaimed by Juanda Kartawidjaja on December 13, 1957, reinforced by Act No. 17 of 1985 concerning the ratification of the United Nations Convention On The Law Of The Sea (UNCLOS) 1982, which states that Indonesia is an archipelago. The sea is a symbol of the strength of Indonesia, both in prosperity of society and country's defence.
"The sea is a resource that gives hope of improving the welfare and prosperity, as well as defence and security, as the embodiment of Indonesia as a world maritime shaft," said Deddy.
Specifically, Deddy explained that the abundant potential of West Java sea will continue to be developed, in order to increase production of processed fish and fishery consumed by the public.
Administratively, West Java has a coastline of 755.83 km with the potential for fish production in 2014 reached 1.2 million tons per year, which consisted of fishing and aquaculture.
"We continue to be committed that the development of fisheries and marine sector in West Java will continue to be encouraged and developed," said Deddy.
"Especially to spur increased fish production to increase in the welfare perpetrators of fisheries and marine, as well as West Java community as a whole," he continued.
Juanda Declaration commemorative event was also attended by Head of Sundanese Government Didi Turmudzi, ITB Rector Suryadi Kadarsah and Rector of UNPAS Eddy Jusuf.
