BANDUNG– Economic inequality or disparity still becomes a classic problem in Indonesia, said Jusuf Kalla (JK) in Bandung.
"Inequality and disparity is not only the main concern for government but also for all element of society in Indonesia, including in the business field, " said the vice president of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, in his speech at the Provincial Leadership Meeting at Aryaduta Hotel, on Sumatera Street, Bandung, Tuesday (24/1).
He said not only Indonesia, other countries, as well as developed countries like the US and several European nations are also concerned with Economic disparity. He claimed that this happens due to their socio-economic disparity.
“Based on statistic, 1% of Indonesians controls 51% national wealth. Meanwhile 10% of Indonesian controls 77% of national wealth. We should decrease this inequality," he explained.
JK observed that in order to minimalize the disparity, the level of welfare should be increased. For example, he added, by supporting business fields, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM). "One of the government's efforts to support UMKM is by providing business credit program with low interest," he said. jo
