Aher: There Must Be Any Special Attention to Bekasi Regency

BANDUNG-The Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan (Aher), said that the low rate of participant in Simultaneous Regional Election 2017 (Pilkada Serentak) from Bekasi Regency was not caused by the administration issues such as e-Identity Card (e-KTP), but rather because of the citizens are lack of awareness regarding their democratic rights as Indonesian Citizens (WNI).

"Those who do not have e-KTP could use Suket (certificate), it is because their democratic awareness is still lacking," Aher explained at his official residence, Thursday (16/1/2017).

Different from other two regions in West Java that also held Pilkada Serentak which are Cimahi and Tasikmalaya cities. The number of participants in those area is more than 80%, while in Bekasi only 60%. Due to the matter, Aher wanted that there must be special attention to Bekasi when Governor and Mayor election in Bekasi city in 2018.

"Especially for Bekasi Regency, there must be any special attention so the number of participation in Governor election in 2018 will increase," he said.

"Of course it is become obligatory for the Government, the Directorate General of Unity and Politic Ministry of Home Affairs (Kesbangpol), the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil), General Election Commission (KPU), Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu), I think we all contribute," he added.

However, the number of disabled participants in those three regions is quite high. It means that the committee of Pilkada had worked to the maximum to facilitate those disabled people who equally have democratic rights.

"The number of disable participants in those three regions is good, it means that the committee of Pilkada had fulfilled their job in facilitating people. Democratic rights are equal including for those disabled people as Indonesian citizens," he said.

In general, the implementation of Simultaneous Pilkada 2017 in West Java was run smoothly and conducive in accordance to the reports that the Governor received.

"According to the reports that I received regarding Pilkada in those three area was run smoothly and good, regarding the vote count it is just temporary, the final count is from KPU," said he.
