BANDUNG-The level of preparedness of the community and Regional Government in the face of major disasters is still relatively low, as evidenced by the results of the disaster poll, it turns out that 77 percent said they were not ready, 14 percent said they were ready and 9 percent said they were ready.
Head of BNPB's Data Information and Public Relations Center, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said, disaster mitigation, disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction still need to be improved, where. Disaster risk reduction must be interpreted as a national development investment.
"Dissemination and disaster education must be improved. There are still many people who do not understand the threat of disaster and anticipation," he said.
According to Sutopo, disaster education needs to be included in the education curriculum since elementary school-high school, this is in accordance with the community's opinion of the disaster poll where 97 percent said disaster education must be included in the education curriculum, while only 3 percent said they did not agree.
"To help improve knowledge and socialize disasters, BNPB published a Handbook on Disasters, in which this book presents basic things that need to be known by the public, both disaster threats and tips on dealing with disasters," he said.
Sutopo explained that disaster is a necessity and must occur in Indonesia because Indonesia is prone to disasters, but what is important is whether we are ready to face the disaster, therefore preparedness and mitigation are important.
"Without it, the impact of the disaster will always cause huge casualties of large economic losses. The community is encouraged to always be vigilant, recognize the dangers and reduce the risks," he concluded. (Parno)
