BIJB Serves New Routes: Kertajati - Medan

BANDUNG - A new route was opened again from West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati, Majalengka. Low-cost airline (LCC) Citilink Indonesia will serve Kertajati (KJT) - Kualanamu (KNO) flights and vice versa in direct.

The new flight service from Majalengka Regency to Medan City can be enjoyed by the community on Friday 9 November 2018.

"Thank God, Citilink Airlines will fly both of them from Kertajati Airport by taking the Kertajati route to Kualanamu and vice versa which will open on November 9," said PT BIJB President Director Virda Dimas Ekaputra, in Bandung, Friday, November 2, 2018.

This commercial flight was opened from Kualanamu at 5:40 a.m. WIB and arrived at Kertajati at 08.05 WIB. Whereas on the other hand the Airbus A320 type aircraft took off Kertajati at 08.45 WIB and arrived Medan at 11:25 WIB.

The new route for domestic flights from a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia is the second, after previously Citilink Airlines served its first flight during the June 2018 Lebaran season and continued with regular flights as of July 1. The routes served are Kertajati Airport - Juanda Airport (SUB) and vice versa every day.

The first commercial flight to the city of Medan will begin testing three times a week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday on a round trip. Flights are not carried out every day for the initial stage, this is intended to see market demand in the two regions.

"This is not every day for the initial stage because we want to see market demand. But in terms of our research, Kertajati Kualanamu is a high recommended one. So we discussed with airlines, it was finally welcomed by Citilink," Virda said.

He believes, this route will be of interest to the community because based on flight needs, services to Medan are quite large for the Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka and Kuningan (Ciayumajakuning) areas that are included in the catchment area. Besides Medan, other domestic routes such as Denpasar, Yogyakarta, Makassar and Jakarta are still being explored so that flights from Kertajati Airport can be more attractive.

"Because our target until the end of this year is to be able to serve 14 direct domestic and international routes," Virda explained.

To reach the western and central regions of Indonesia, TransNusa domestic airlines have applied for commercial flights with the use of ATR 72-600 turboprop type aircraft. TransNusa will begin flights from Kertajati to Bandar Lampung (TKG) and Semarang (SRG) on Sunday 11 November 2018.

As for international routes, the flight has been marked by the opening of a direct flight to Kertajati - Madinah by Airline Lion Air on 13 October 2018 and then released by the Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil. Flights to transport Umrah pilgrims with Boeing 737 max 8 aircraft are made once a week.
